A Conversation With...
Ms. Charlotte Busch

Q: Where did you grow up and how did you get here, (A&M-CC)?

A: I am a native south Texan, born in Cuero, Texas. I have been married for 36 years. We have two adult children. One lives in the Dallas area and has one child; the other lives in California and has two children. We have had a variety of dogs and cats over the years. I received a B.A. and an M.A. in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. After my husband's discharge from five year's service in the US Air Force, we eventually moved to Corpus Christi where I returned to school and received my M.S. in Computer Science from Corpus Christi State University (now TAMUCC) in 1983. I was hired that year to teach Computer Science and mathematics courses and have been with TAMUCC for 20 years. Currently, I am the Computer Science Program Coordinator.

Q: What motivates you and has helped you become who you are today?

A: I really do enjoy the teaching aspect of my job and the work environment. The drawbacks of this job are definitely overshadowed by the enjoyable interaction with students and other faculty members.

Q: What makes you passionate about your field and teaching students?

A: I suppose it is whenever you feel that a student really understands a concept that you’ve been trying to teach him or her. That feeling is most rewarding.

Q: What course(s) are your favorite to teach?

A: My favorite courses would probably be those using the programming languages C++ and Java.

Q: What co-curricular activities are you involved in, and how can students become involved with you in those activities?

A: The main one is the advising process. I enjoy serving as a faculty mentor to help students determine their semester and long range course plans.

Q: Outside of TAMUCC, what extracurricular activities are you involved in; what do you do for fun?

A: We have church work and activities; we spend time with our family (and grandchildren) whenever they are around. We also have a little country get-away not far from Corpus where we enjoy the deer, turkey, rabbits, birds, wildflowers and such.

Q: Who inspired you the most or had the greatest impact during your collegiate experience which directed you to your field of study?

A: The root of my inspiration came from my parents. Both were in the education business at some point in their lives. My dad was a public school coach, teacher, principal, and superintendent. My mom, who was also a teacher, was a first generation college graduate. In fact, all eight children in her family graduated from college.

Q: What is your greatest achievement and whom do you attribute this to?

A: I would say rearing two children to become productive adults is at the top of the list. A lot of luck was involved as well as support and role models from family.

Q: What question does the study of Computer Science attempt to answer?

A: How do you solve real world problems using technology, in particular, computer technology?

Q: Wouldn’t be caught dead wearing?

A: Bell-bottom trousers. Been there, done that, and have seen the pictures!
